About the Studio

Walt worked from his studio at the Industrial Center Building in Sausalito for over 50 years. We’ve worked hard to preserve the unique ambiance he created, carefully selecting examples of his oils and monotypes for the walls, and organizing and protecting his library and working materials. The studio is an evolving environment, as freshly restored works are returned and new space is found on already crowded walls. Meanwhile, we continue to discover previously unknown works, including a collection of erotic watercolors and etchings from the 1940’s. Walt was a complex, prolific and versatile artist – far from ending with his death, his contributions to the art world and to those who admired him, seem only to multiply.
